A Bird's Cage
While I’m huddled down here
deep into the safety of my closet
I pretend it’s a game
just like hide and seek
only I do not want to be found
I cry quietly at the thought
that while I am sitting here
there is a girl being loved
Held tight in her mom’s arms
Not trembling to the bone
knowing that she will be found soon
She isn’t perfect, but her mom doesn’t care
She loves her anyways
The girl is filled with laughter
Her mom smiles at her with hope
It isn’t fair, what did I do?
I want my mother to smile at me
I would love for her to be proud
I don’t know if she loves me
Or loves each hit she takes.
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
I will live my life with this broken wing
Just let me at least try to fly
