The Essence of Youth
Childhood was wearing stripes with polka dots
Talking to anyone who would listen
having a thirst for knowledge that could never be quenched
Childhood was the fear of sharks in the deep-end of the public pool
When a stick was ample entertainment
When the workers at Disneyland really mistook you for a princess
When a band-aid would fix all wounds
Childhood was Mac-and-cheese with hot dogs
Hot chocolate on snowy days
And dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets
Childhood was when being a dog was a viable career choice
When you would live at home forever
And marry the boy you sat next to in class
Childhood was thinking at seventeen you'd have it all figured out
Adulthood is knowing you had it right in the beginning
