Almost Madness
Drip drip drop
TA TA TA tah
Pa poomph Pa poomph
All the tiny sounds scream out in silence and add to chaos in my head.
Drip drip drip
The splashes from the leaky faucet in the corner;
they crash like waves in a storm
and I expect a tsunami to flood the room.
TA TA TA tah
The boy across the room tries to remember through the top of his pencil,
as if the pounding sound like giants' footsteps would allow anyone to think.
It thunders through the air and I expect an earthquake to rattle the earth like it rattles my mind.
Pa poomph Pa poomph
My heart beats in my chest
and I think everyone can hear it
and they are focusing on it like I am,
but that just makes it beat harder,
and louder,
and the drips drop from the faucet,
and the top of the pencil taps,
and the heart pounds,
and all the sounds are adding together and swirling into a giant storm of madness,
and I wonder why the rest of the world
just
hears
silence.
