“Sweating like demons they scream through our speakers but we leave the sound on ‘cause silence is harder” – Regina Spektor (Consequence of Sound)

A young man's tears, a fight gone wrong,
A father screams all night longs,
But the boy didn't speak,
(There was nothing to say),

A teenager's anger, bottled so tight,
A father's rage, a fearsome sight,
But the boy didn't speak,
(There was nothing to say),

A young man stands with a ring,
A father sits as wedding bells sing,
But the boy didn't speak,
(There was nothing to say),

A mother's death, an old man's tears,
A man aged beyond his years,
But the boy didn't speak,
(There was nothing to say),

A new baby is born, a new father is made,
A grandfather sits, alone in the shade,
But the boy didn't speak,
(There was nothing to say),

A father walks, his son in tow,
Through the stones, row by row,
But the boy didn't speak,
(There was so much to say).

The author's comments:
The inspiration for this poem hit me as I was running, and I had to jump off of my treadmill in order to get it all down before I could forget.

Poetry can mean something different to everyone, and I don't wish to cheapen the piece by adding an arbitrary meaning to it. However, to me, this poem speaks of regrets created out of anger and fear.

Hopefully you enjoy!
