The Science of Goodbye
Scientifically speaking, your heart cannot break
But I consider it breaking
When you can't breathe
When your chest tightens at the sight of him
When you can't possible forget him
That's breaking
I hit my breaking point
And now, months later
I seem to be on the mend
I hear all this advice people tell me
That reassures me
Your first love is never your true love
So I don't have to go back to him
It won't work even if he wants it to
You'll never get over your first love
There's a reason I feel this way
I can still love again
It gives me hope that I love this guy
And the one before
At least not the same way
I have a future
New hopes
I just have to get over this mountain
But when I'm sure it doesn't hurt
I see him again
Laughing, smiling
Without me
Like he never even cared
He probably didn't
It just hurts
Why can't we even be friends
Why don't we talk anymore
I miss our talks
Well I guess I will eventually have to do this
And seeing that you won't even look at me
Better soon than later
Goodbye, I love you.
