Never Good with Goodbyes
You’re turning away—
And I think
That I will
burst out
into letters
And phrases
And forgotten speeches
And they will all fall
like
confetti
You’ll catch the loudest words
In your palms, cradle them, turn around
and walk back to me.
But your shadow grows dimmer,
And farther,
Until all that is left
Is my breath
that I’ve held in
For so long.
Without you, these words
disappear
into
thin
air.
