Hummingbird
Once the hummingbird swooped
From its thick gangling perch
Love did not dare avert its ears
For the sound was the definition of it
The life of it
The meaning of it
The whole universe
That belonged to love
Is now a distant memory
That reflects in the eyes of travelers
As golden pleasures
It drifts in the wind
And leaves but a whisper
Passing the color-streaked bird
As it flees to shelter
From a broken heart
