New Shoes
My shoes are broken
A reflection of my past
They’ve split from hitting the ground
From the jump of a second-story window
Where I took all of her money
They used to be white
But now they have red
From where I kicked in his skull
After trying to betray me
They tried to race the police
But they weren’t fast enough
The cops tied them together
When I tried to fight back
I lost my soles in prison
My shoes became shells
They soaked up the sweat
The fell off of my face
When the withdrawal hit
Suddenly my own blood covered the white
I used to be proud of the damage they had endured
But I had tainted that reputation
Now I’m replacing my shoes
I need new soles, a fresh start
It’s time for a change
