Footsteps
You wandered on the beach with me
We wandered we lost souls
Our feet dug scars into the sand
Making tattoo imprints, may they hold
I loved every freckle and every smile
And they molded into my eyes like our steps into the sand
They burned a spot within me that will never be the same.
You were a song to which I danced
Like a vibrant lullaby
But as the sun went down
And darkness crept around
The waves began to pound
And in the absence of light I saw your lies
The water swirled around our feet
Then your footsteps began to walk on
When I looked back at the stains we left in the sand,
They were just sand and sea and gone.
Now with only your steps forward,
And no way to return from where we came
I walk into the open water
For without your hand in mine,
My footsteps are not the same
