American Dream
I can never be
an all-american girl, try as I might,
with big blue, hazel eyes
that change as they hit the sunlight,
with golden ringlets of hair
that flow down in waves,
or those dotted freckles
scattered like sesame seeds upon their face.
But I have an American Dream,
just like everyone else.
To be accepted as an American
regardless of what I look like myself.
