Houses
You made me realize that houses
could be people, too.
And with you in my life
I finally had a house that felt like a home.
My black and blue back,
cracked lungs,
and swollen lips can never be undone.
But goddamn,
you came pretty close
to healing them.
Without warning, your “for sale” sign went up.
Now
the plaster is cracking,
the doors with swollen hinges are locked,
the ghosts in my blue walls have returned.
Once again, I am a runaway.
A stranger in my own body
that may never be a house,
let alone a home,
again.
