A Hole in the Woods
I suppose my first mistake was to venture off the path
"Stay on the trail" is what the sign read
Don't really follow rules well, they make me laugh
Follow my trail, set my own sail,
I cut my feet on thorns and bled.
I thought I'd be different, go my own way
But what I didn't know, was once I'd go
Is that everyone else would think the same
The same desire for difference everyone craves
Even if it means digging their own graves.
So like many others before me
Follow a beaten path into the woods
Try and flee, mentally, from society
Kept thinking about turning back
My skin is baked and my feet are cracked
Dig a hole to escape the heat
Using the only nails i have left
Climb in the hole exhausted and beat
Not deep enough, still scorched
I became feeble and wept
Started digging more, a deeper hole
Persistent to escape the heat
I need to relieve my soul
It's tattered, battered, and beat
I dig and dig for two years straight
Until I look up and realized I dug too deep
Can't jump out or climb, its far too late
Forced to sit around, sleep
Nothing but worms to eat
Waiting day and night for someone else
Who decided to leave the beaten path like me
Not to get away from people, but from themself
And figure out who they really want to be
Finally wear those thick glasses so they can see
But yet for years I've sat in this trench I've made
No one's come along yet to throw me a rope
As the realities blur, and memories fade
All I need is someone's spark of hope
To ignite my flames, and dry up the tears in which I wade.
