Where I am from
I am from sizzling summer days at Chain Lake,
and from family and friends calling me Lyssa.
I am from crashing into the old, rusty wheelbarrow,
to laying in bed with a concussion on New Year’s Eve.
The blazing sun beats down on my best friend and ,
as we skid across the cool, calm, captivating lake while tubing.
I am from making silly, nonchalant and innocent mistakes like not accomplishing chores,
to my grandmother illustrating “You can’t change the past, but you can always change the future.”
From my own house to my cabin I am two different people.
I am from obtaining duties and jobs and school,
then going to the genuine spunky and outdoorsy girl, I endure.
Family time is a treasured thing up in the north woods,
and I couldn’t ask for anything better than having fun with family.
I am from our Friday night fish fries and fires by the lake,
to making s’mores and even fishing in the dark.
I am from walks along the backroads,
to holding sleepovers with friends and catching up in life.
We share old and new memories of our past and present with each other,
and then create more through the years.
I am from homework and tolerating co-workers,
laughter and play,
to the sizzling summer days at the lake.
