Digging through life
Digging digging digging
Digging through life
Digging a hole as normal, digging through strife
When one day, my spade stopped to my dismay
It had hit something, something had changed my day
I reached down to get it out, out of the way
But to my suprise it was a white diamond, beautiful, reflecting the suns rays
I held the diamond aloft, against the blue sea above
To admire its beauty, warmer than a hug
For that day, I lay down my spade
To polish and admire the diamond, that had found itself in my way
However the next morning the diamond had gone, forsaken me without telling me
I took that day off from digging, knowing I'd never find one like you again
I took the day to mourn, to wallow in my sorrow
Until I realized that this hole was not going to dig itself
So I went outside, strapped on my boots, and picked up my spade
Digging digging digging
I continued digging through life
Putting you to the back of my mind
I knew that in this ground, that lay beneath my feet
There were many other gems to find
Green, yellow, and the color of a beet
Hard work it was, to push my spade down and down
But even harder it was to forget the diamond that I once found
Another day, long later, after memories of the diamond had long since faded away
One day, my spade stopped again to my dismay
It had hit something, something had changed my day
I reached down into the ground, to see what stood in my way
A rock the size of my fist, ugly and brown
I contemplated putting it back and continuing my day
Instead I decided to keep it, and put my spade away
I went inside, and sanded away the stone
Until to my suprise, underneath the cold outer layer
A diamond like I had never before seen revealed itself to the world
This diamond I kept
My spade grew old and rusted, never to be touched again
As I had finally found a life long friend
Digging digging digging
Digging through life
This I no longer did, for there was no point
I had finally found the love of my life
