Warrior's Prayer
Dress me in a suit of steel, press a blade into my hand
Wrap a shield around my arm and bid me farewell
Tonight the moon will illuminate the battlefield
Rivers of blood sparkling in the night like diamonds
Sing my praises when I’m gone, when I do not return
Lay flowers on my cold brow as the dawn cries for me
Don’t let my name fall from your lips in jest or in shame
Tell your children stories of my bravery and my victories
Even as my body rots beneath the earth, pray for me
The silk wrapped around my corpse is worth less than my bones
And if there is no soil, lay me to rest in the river
Where the cool water will kiss my feet and unfeeling fingers
Don’t wait until the sun sets to call for me
I will be the roll of thunder across the skies and the rain will be my tears
Reaching windy arms out to shake the trees and rally the spirits
When the last breath leaves my body
Dress me in a gown of white, press a flower into my hand
Wrap a charm of holly around my arm and bid me farewell
Tonight the moon will shine upon my headstone
Rivers of tears sparkling in the night like diamonds
Sing my praises when I’m gone, when I do not return
