Sometimes
Sometimes he leaves
He doesnt tell us where
or how long.
Sometime he calls us every
day
Paranoid something has happened.
Sometimes we don't hear from him for
weeks
Then he shows up
at a game
a practice
a recital.
As if nothing happened.
"We can't change him,"
my mother always reminds us
But one day they come to the door
in their uniforms.
Their shoulders sag.
My mother crumples.
He doesn't come home
