What Is School?
A place to learn what you never wanted to know,
A place where it takes all of you to get out of bed and go,
Deemed by your peers dumb and slow,
That is school.
For nine months it holds unhappy children,
Might as well say it’s a pregnant building,
But the type of pregnancy with joy being an absent feeling,
That is school.
On one side there’s the grade-obsessed,
Never satisfied, their grades only depress,
Enough to push them over the edge from the stress,
That is school.
Those who are concerned by how they are perceived,
Wanting acceptance turns into a need,
Where shallowness is of a new breed,
That is school.
A competition for attention,
No one wins, we need an intervention,
Unwelcome and unloved - did I mention,
That is school.
