i i i i i
believe in simplicity
i believe in tea that scathes and soothes
in hours twisting grass between my fingers
i believe in the sound of pens on paper
of silence that’s settled, content
i believe in whispers of wind
in the cusp of summer
i believe
i believe in hazel eyes and
second chances i believe in
old mascara smudges and
pop songs on repeat and
i believe
i believe in three hour phone calls
in broken phone chargers and
the way my hair smells in rain
i believe in melodic voices
in unearthing the good
i believe in dancing in the basement and
clean classical music and
in books that make me cry
in strong arms and soft hands and
stubbed toes and coconut lotion and
salting snails in the backyard
i believe
i believe in long drives in dirty cars
in green apples tangy on my tongue
i believe in airplane peanuts and
starting conversations i believe
i believe in the inexorable self
i believe
