As I watched the

skinny kid

step

onto the hot tub ledge:
eyes- lit up,

mouth-

stretched into a smile so wide,

legs- kicking

through the tub's current, and

hands- poking

each bubble in sight,

I observed the adults-

all complaining,

all frowns on their faces,

all expressions of disgust,

all provoked and annoyed

from the kid's noise and

laughter.

I smiled.

I rememberd when I was a

skinny kid-

small I was,

but,

my mind held a vast range of

imagination.

Each bubble that past

was a town,

and my fist would

rush through, wiping the bubbles,

smashing and disturbing

the peace.

The kid was

mesmerized

by the fluffy white foam,

by the buzz of the bubbles,

by the heat of the hot tub,

by the jolt of the jets,

and by all

the smallest of things.

Nothing seemed to worry him,

he was concentrated

on his vivid fantasy,

and did not give a s***

about the negative adults

that circled around.

I admired his ability to

pretend,

to visualize,

to ignore

everything that he didn't like,

and I wondered

why

these adults are so

opposed by his

laugh,

by the noise of his

cheers,

by the joy that he has,

And I then realized

that these adults are

jealous,

they envy the kid's

merriment,

and his effortless and happy

life.

And as the adults

sat,

and as the kid

played,

and as the tub kept

forming foam,

and blooming bubbles,

I hoped that

one day,

we will all

re-encounter

with the benevolence and joy

we possessed as a

kid.

This piece is meant to be presented as a spoken word, and was inspired by a cute little angel, sitting and laughing in a hot tub.
