Fearful Apologies
I’m sorry I care about things that don’t matter to you, like feelings.
I’m sorry I’m not as smart as you’d like me to be,
and I’m afraid that I’ll never be that smart one day.
I’m sorry I’m not like you.
I’m sorry I can’t push myself like you do to yourselves,
and I’m afraid that you’ll never accept me for me.
I’m sorry I didn’t fit your cookie cutter.
I’m sorry I didn’t turn out the way you expected,
and I’m afraid that I’ll never be what you want.
I’m sorry I always disappoint you.
I’m sorry I’m not strong enough to stop myself,
but what I’m most afraid of is that I’ll never be enough.
