Where I'm From
I am a jar filled to the top...
I am from the calmness and serenity of the woods,
and the whispers of the wind, whirling around in the trees.
I am from the luscious vanilla
and a welcoming aura.
I am from the chaos where the noise booms.
Footsteps, voices, and laughter echoing down the halls.
I am from family and affection.
Belonging, compassion, and a home,
one in which I will have a place.
I am from imaginary castles in the sky,
spies on top secret missions, to lava monsters between the pillows.
Hidden in my thoughts and fantasies where only I could enter.
I am from night games and doorbells, to stories of ghosts lurking between whispers and rumors.
Damp and dirty feet from the midnight dew.
The desire for freedom and exploration.
I am from the creaky, red cushioned covered pews.
The sound: a mother’s whispers to her baby crying behind me,
and the voice on the microphone.
I am from glitter and glue covered hands.
The footsteps of the child sneaking away,
and the energy filling the room.
I am from the dirty streets of Denver.
The conversation and prayers with the people sleeping in the parks.
The grateful smiles of the strangers changing my life.
I am filled with experiences, places, and moments, wrapped into one...me.
