Lemonade
People are people.
But some may not feel that way.
May not be treated.
Nor respected.
Are you ready?
Face this world,
The bright lights and flowers are but wool.
Cover your eyes,
For if you open them you may see it.
See reality;
see it naked and bare.
Shivering before you as a child in the cold.
without a blanket, huddled in the brisk wind.
You may be snug in your world,
Content and comforted,
while others may believe happiness is only something they can pursue.
If you do choose to open them.
If you choose to be engulfed,
to be swallowed up by the world, you may realize that this part of your life,
this crucial part,
huge or minuscule,
will not just be yours.
You share your life with all those you meet.
Smiling, retired veteran.
struggling, somber child.
Bullied, self-conscience woman.
The puzzle is broken,
Each receive a piece.
When they sift through the remains,
searching for the lost portions,
They wonder if life would be easier if they went to sleep.
Escape away from the constant disappointment.
And you may think that you need to fix it.
Now.
Wrong answer.
Life will hand you all lemons.
and some may choose to eat them.
Use them in that moment.
Some may throw them in the trash and waste the possibility,
but some,
might hold them in their hands,
and see an opportunity.
a chance to quench their thirst,
But without a little something extra, some may not be able to digest that.
In the end, one way or another, we can all make our own lemonade.

While watching the movie, Pursuit of Happyness, I pulled lines that seemed relevant to me at the time to incorporate into a poem that translates the overall message of the movie. This poem also depicts, not only the general message, but also the feelings it evoked in me.
