Red Solo Cups
red solo cups staggered
music blaring through the speakers
dimmed lights
a room of friends
laughing
talking
sitting alone, like me
just observing
some of them are swallowing sadness and finding relief at the bottom of their red solo cups
others are dancing their problems away
or playing drinking games as an excuse to drink more
or waiting for the moment to take the person they like away for awhile
or being obnoxious
but there is more to them than that
because the boy who is playing beer pong is in love with a girl who's confused on what she wants
and the girl who is dancing was in love with a boy who wanted someone else
and the boy who is taking a girl to the next room is really escaping the pain of loving someone else
and the girl who is reaching the bottom of her red solo cup doesn’t know what she wants and it scares her
and the boy who is being obnoxious just started being noticed this year because of his title
I continue to sit here and see right through people
because they don’t make it hard
,but no one ever notices because they don’t care
,but I do
,and will continue to
,and while when the red solo cups are staggered
,and the music is blaring through the speakers
,and the lights are dimmed
know someone understands

The parties I attend in high school inspired me to write this piece. I believe many teenagers are misunderstood on who they truly are. I want to show the deeper meaning behind people's actions.
