Former Love
I remember sparks flying like fireworks on Independence Day.
And while that may have been one sided, it was true for a moment.
I built altars beside your bed and watched you from the pulpit
Delivering sermons and reciting scripture beyond your comprehension.
I painted you; exalted you the way you wanted.
I bent over backwards to satisfy you,
And woke up with an arrangement
Of ruptured blood vessels from loving too hard.
Our nights were nothing less than enchanted
A whirlwind of Technicolor dreams
And while I was lost in my own reverie,
I missed you dressed as the devil in my peripheral vision
I know that you can’t miss me all too much
Judging from your reign of polygamous misconduct.
With that being said, I bid you farewell
Because I’ve finally realized my worth.
