Ego Teneo Vos Claudat (I'll Hold You Close)
I’ve got your hand in mine, metaphorically.
“I’ll never let go, Jack,”
but your name isn’t Jack-
you don’t have a name yet.
“No, I am your father,”
it’s a misconception among many
that we don’t know who you belong to,
because he disappeared as time went on.
“I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy,
asking him to love her,”
is how I felt when the real one
left me with you.
“I think I’d miss you,
even if we’d never met,”
I didn’t get to meet you,
because it was too late to hold you close.
