The Turtle

He opened the door

stuck his head out
heard the neighbors
and swiftly returned inside.

He was safe in his home, his shell.
He seldom ventured out,
food and occasional sunlight
his only desire unavailable inside.

Some days he would leave his fortress
and slowly make his way
to his favorite spot in the sun,
leaving when others came near.

It was a lonely life,
an old turtle recluse,
his shell, his safe haven
but that was the way he liked it

This poem compares an old recluse to a turtle.
