Alone
As I’m sitting on the train by myself...a man approaches.
“Is this seat taken?” he asks with a smile.
“No, go ahead!” I respond.
He sits down next to me--only two feet apart.
I think to myself how much I hate making small talk with strangers.
A few seconds later he asks “How are you today?”
“I’m good, how are you?” being polite.
He goes on to tell me about his morning in great detail.
Suddenly I don’t mind engaging in a conversation.
“This is my stop,” he utters with a frown.
“It was nice talking with you!” I answer.
He gets up from his seat and steps off of the train,
waving as the doors close.
I wave back...realizing I’m alone again.
