Life at Last
The smell of hot breakfast
Fills my awakening senses.
Warm blankets
On my cool skin.
The smell of you
On the silky pillow
And the empty mattress beside me.
The banging of pots and pans
Echos from the
Sunlit kitchen.
A laugh of joy escapes me.
My life like a dream.
No more the sorrows.
Flinging off the flannel covers,
I run with glee
To the room with you.
I see your heavenly face;
Brilliant hazel eyes,
A warm smile,
And mouse-brown hair.
You are like a sunset,
Most beautiful
And my muse
The subject of all my work
And the encouragement to my strokes.
Because with you,
I find my peace.
By your side I will live,
And with you
Live happily I will.
