Flames
Fire,
wisps of flames across your face.
They burn in my mind and yet
you shun your eyes, your
beautiful eyes.
They streak red and
blotchy down your face,
Are you crying?
Shoulders hunched, you wrinkle
the shirt I pressed for you. The ends
squeezed tight in your fists and
your collar is unbuttoned. Did you feel like
you were choking?
I feel like that too, sometimes.
I'm sorry,
if my words wrapped around your neck
and pulled tight to the
point where you couldn't
breathe. They do that
sometimes. What is that, upon your ear? Is it
the jade I gifted to
you many monthsago?
The jade that matches your eyes, your
beautiful eyes.
The jade that glares at me from your turned face.
Why are you scowling, darling?
The snow upon your cheek is melting into roses as i speak
and dripping onto my cold hands.
Your pursed lips stained
with sunset rouge. Did you
try to rub away the sin
I planted on your lips? That doesn't work, I
believe. Your hard nose is
turned away. Knife like, yet stunning.
Are you able to see through the
fire in front of your eyes?
Does it burn?
Is that why you
can't look at me?
Darling, please. Ash is filling my
lungs.
I'm choking. Please, darling. What did
I say?
What did I do?
