The ALMOST Disastrous Cattle Drive
The wind chills my face as I sit and wait for the cows.
Dottie’s deep below breaks the morning silence.
When they arrive I start to lead them to their new pasture.
But Dottie as usual takes over.
All the cows follow Dottie as she races in front of me.
They are running full speed when a grey, Ford truck
pulls in front of them.
My heart’s pounding so hard I can hear blood rushing through my ears.
I hope they don’t veer of into the woods.
I am not looking forward to an afternoon of
chasing cows through the woods.
After what seems like an eternity,
The driver backs up into a near by driveway.
Now, a different unfamiliar truck is behind us.
I push the remaining calves harder;
running, yelling and wildly waving my arms.
Once we reach the gate,
I dare to let out a sigh of relief.
That cattle drive was almost disastrous.
Almost.

I wrote this poem to express how I feel while moving cows. It is very fun and stressful.
