The City
The city is perpetual;
Its people too-
And the screaming of
The taxi cabs-
And the sky above-
And my love for you.
The trees shiver,
But no one notices.
That man has no home,
But no one notices.
The sky is still,
With freckles that illuminate
The man who asks for change;
Change for the poison that will burn his insides,
And keep him warm through the lonely winter storm.
