I saw you today
I saw you today.
You came out of the corner,
Slipping through the doorway.
You emerged from the darkness,
Coming into the light.
You took that dumb hood off your head,
And then the pain began to come.
You didn’t even have to look at me,
The pain radiated off your sleeves.
I tried to look away,
You had already engulfed me with emotion.
The weight of the world was on my chest,
Everything felt like it was closing in.
I didn’t ask for this-
Why me?
I began to fight back,
I crawled from the depth where you left me.
I struggled to stand,
Grasping your arm then pushing you down.
I beat you,
Physically and emotionally.
You couldn’t stand to be without me once more,
So you left but only for today.
I will soon see you again,
For anxiety comes as it pleases.
But for now I will rest in peace,
As you lie in defeat,
For I saw you today.

Be happy, not because everything you see is good, but because you can see the good in everything.
