Free throw shots
TWO SHOTS, the referee says, his whistle PIERCING, like a baby's SCREAM.
The ball is passed to me. The goosebumps that blanket the ball scraping my palms.
ONE BOUNCE. TWO BOUNCES.
INHALE.
I shoot the ball, wrist flicking.
SWISH!
The ball goes in, the crisp sound of net reminding me of a turn of a page out of a new book.
ONE MORE SHOT. PLAY ON THE RELEASE, the referee says, passing me the ball.
The crowd is silent, like that if a calm before a storm.
ONE BOUNCE. TWO BOUNCES.
INHALE.
ONE MORE SHOT. ONE MORE CHANCE TO WIN THE GAME.
I SHOOT.
...
...
...
SWISH!!
The crowd explodes into celebration.
EXHALE.
We just
Won
The
GAME.
