Voices
The fryers and broiler work hard, running for hours on endurance. The tickets and timers screaming, “Another order! Another order!” The kitchen receives my undivided attention, and only one thing can break my focus: the call of a co-worker. I know who it is before ever talking a glance.
Tim’s voice is deep and demeaning like a void you won’t escape from. His voice is a wall that punches you in the gut. But Steph’s is elegant and excited! Willing to work and has stories to share. Steph’s voice is like the dog waiting for you to come home, ready to spend time together. Q’s voice is firm and friendly. He is thankful for the remaining time we have together. His voice is a bag a Skittles, “Taste the rainbow, share the rainbow,” sweet and succulent, vibrant and unpredictable. Kaile’s voice, the eye of the storm, is smooth and silky. Graceful and golden like her hair. It is a voice that brings a hush over any crowd.
