Where I'm from
I am from Milk and Honey and the skin I’m in.
From hardcover and paperback.
I am from the “not so hood”
(Cluttered, peaceful, the smell of herbs burns my nose.)
I am from lilies and dandelions
Full of hope, innocence, and pure.
I’m from big family dinners every thanksgiving and big lips.
From Hannah and Ruhnetta.
I’m from the know-it-alls and the Diva’s
From it’s better to be seen than heard and girl you better hold your dime.
I’m from the Father, the Son and, the Holy Ghost.
I’m from the sand on the beach and the dirt on the fields.
From fried chicken and Garlic crabs.
From the baby makers and way makers.
And the hard workers.
We display family photos and awards in the main hall.
When you walk through the front door you’ll see our family running down the walls
From the time my mom was brought home, to the time I was born.
From losing my first tooth, to going on my first motorcycle ride.
From my A+ ribbons to my acceptance letters.
The pictures are worth more than an image,
They’re a story waiting to be passed on.
