Stitches
You glimpsed her in the corner of your eye
She was watching
and laughed when you caught her.
She has the hands of a lover;
They slipped seamlessly into yours
and stitched themselves to your fingers.
She hasn't let go.
When she whispers
Breath hot against your ear
Voice the lilting song of a mockingbird
She tells you how much she loves you
and how much she lives to love
and how much she loves losing.
Your ears ring with unkept promises
Too numb to feel her needle thread your heart.
