Death of an American Beauty
You gave yourself
permission to rip my heart out,
and now
you have the audacity
to act surprised when you find it missing?
I aspire to nothing
besides my development
as I blossom in the moon's light at night
I, your antithesis
bridled fire on a warpath
born from the ashes
of your warped reality
The mirror, the enemy
shattered as the years pass
for fear of those features
staring back at me.
But age cannot be escaped.
I hate
how much of me
is dependant
on not being being you.
But I will break this family's cycle.
Bet.
