Where I'm From
Playing in the snow with friends and building snow forts in the park with family.
Scraped knees from the sidewalk,
chalking the same sidewalk minutes later,
children turning to the bright colors and melody of the ice cream truck
leaving town for new opportunities and saying farewell to friends,
That’s where I’m from.
Playing in a farmhouse, an acre of backyard.
Meeting friends,
hurt by those who once called me “friend”
left for other people by my “friends”
Loneliness cuts like a knife.
Moving on, keeping to my own…
That’s where I’m from.
Friendship, love, then heartbreak,
losing a loved one I thought would stay.
Shrouded in doubt and negativity,
I found hope in a quote from my favorite singer Till Lindemann,
“Love is like a flower; even the most beautiful kind dies.”
I realized that people have gone through worse than I.
That is where I’m from!
