Kindergarten
Five years old in the hallway
Walking back to class in line
Smaller than the other kids
No one minds too much
Coming home with my best friend
To gumballs and Mister Rogers
No homework and no tests
Learning to read and count
Mom isn’t gone all day
She still cooks dinner
All together as a family
I don’t eat in my room
Everything is so big and curious
Late picture books and bee stings
Are the only worry on my tiny mind
The world is a little bit blurry
Vignette of age creeps along the corners
Glimpses on the news and mom frowning
Go over my little blonde head
And I am innocent
