My Favorite Place
Along Ice Age Trail
“Loew Lake Segment”, they call it
My favorite place
Foot travel only
Cars, bikes, boats, don’t disturb it
Only people go
Up the winding path
Through the grassy entrance plains
Into the forest
Absorbed into trees
Thin and tall, rising above
The shade dances, free
No path beyond here
Only intuition now
To guide you to it
Across knotted roots
Weaving through nature’s domain
Down the river bank
Travel to the end
Its grandeur, unassuming
There it is, that stump
Upon it, I rest
My weary soul and body
And observe nature
No stress, no thinking
Only the babbling river
And the caw of birds
Tucked behind branches
Look out towards the marshland
Through the obscured gap
Viewing history
The same view as those before
Nature connects us
Along Ice Age Trail
Loew Lake Segment resides there
My favorite place
