A Rich Heart
One, a girl of wealth and mirth,
The other, not a cent of noble birth.
One, a golden star alight,
The other, facing Darkness’ plight.
One, blooming to a blazing peak,
The other, struggling to make ends meet.
One, encircled forevermore,
The other, left broken, hurt unsure.
Both of them too far apart,
But sharing each a simple heart
Of need and love and cherished hopes,
Of wounding pain, unwinding ropes.
Braving life and what it throws,
Pushing down illiterate foes
And enjoying what they can the most,
But too kind in spirit to dare to boast.
She, a girl not ever known
What the other had had to stone,
But caring for each just the same
With open heart and lending brain.
A bonded love through thick and thin,
Solid, unshakable, more than a whim.
This is the story of friendship told
Where two is one in a heart of gold.
