I never sleep, 'cause sleep is the cousin of death

There was a boy named Ben,
He lived a life of sin,
He said “Let’s all get high,
For tomorrow we die!”
And soon Ben met his end.

His death was premature,
And he ceased to be seen or heard,
And nobody cried,
When Ben had died,
Nor was any emotion stirred.

Ben lived a life of pleasure,
It was the only success he measured,
But the pleasure ran out,
And we never can doubt,
That this will bring no lasting treasure.

There was once a boy named Ben,
He met an early end,
He said he “lived in the moment”,
Beats everything, don’t it?
And his funeral had not a one friend.

The author's comments:
This poem tries to make the point that "live in the moment" does not mean just go crazy, and that those who live the #YOLO lifestyle are often the loneliest people--and are often permanently damaged by their actions.

We all go a little crazy sometimes. Haven't you?

I liked it! Well, y'know, how you like Poe. Depressing, but interesting. Keep writing!

I hate living but there is so much more I want to do before I die.

I cried...this is so true and it happens to so many people now ...the ylive in the moment and think they're invincible...and they alienate everyone...and in the end they have nothing...so wonderfully written.

It is better to write for yourself and have no audience than write for your audience and have no self.

i love this piece. a lot. the rhyth is entrancing and the whole thing is totally put together and i just love the message. YOLO doesnt mean lets all party because someday we're all going to die. i think it was supposed to mean lets take risks that count. fantastic poem

YES i am the first to comment! XD Okay, so. You captured the definiton of Limerick spot on! Usually the limericks i read are about silly things  and are for kids. But this defines limerick in a new way-- a way in which one may rethink thier entire life. And thats what writers are here for-- to inspire the reader. And inspire you did! The ending is a perfect 'rap' (get it?) up and everyone has those moments where nothing matters, like Ben. So KEEP WRITING AMIGO
