Lady Bones
The mirror is a liar, you can’t trust it
Reflecting eyes that are lusterless
Is it better to break the puzzle or fit
To need a rest from all the rest
What am I to those empty eyes
Watching all and walking by
They see the space between my thighs
But never ask the skeleton why
I am the beads in my necklace,
The sticks and the stones
A flower of paper
An angle of bones
The chocolate and Kleenex
For when I’m alone
What can you know of my silent eyes
Or of the life I choose to lead
Do you know of concreate and sunset skies
The very first time you ever felt free
Because I won’t hide my scars anymore
Tears have dried, skeletons buried
I’ve walked that mile; I’ve closed that door
Buckled under the weights I’ve carried
I am the beads in my necklace,
The sticks and the stones
A flower of paper
An angle of bones
The chocolate and Kleenex
For when I’m alone
And life is not an easy thing
To live in darkness for so long
But someone cut the puppet’s strings
Who knew that bones could be so strong?
