By the Morning Glory
Down by the river
sing for me the old dirge
and let your voices merge
Lay me down
by the morning glory
by the morning glory
Remember me
when you tell my story
when you tell my story
Lay me down
like an old reverie
by the morning glory
I.
Started a new day
Woke up and prayed
And asked for God’s grace
I tried to see the world with new eyes
But it was drowning with human lies
No color, everything was black and white
I cannot suffer
As Life gets tougher
We’ll dig a place
For me to lay
II.
Woke up a new man
Trying to understand
Life’s divine plan
Yet human nature made me cynical
Love’s vanished, and hate’s natural
My heart’s grown cold and miserable
I’ve seen to many vain hearts start to rot
Everyone meanders not giving it a thought
My friends say I’m idealistic
My views are not realistic
I’d rather dream of a world where we all get along
Send me to sing with the cherubic throng
