What "Demons" by Imagine Dragons Means to Me
I think the song, “Demons” by the band Imagine Dragons has the message; even when life doesn’t always seem wonderful, and you feel helpless, you should still try to make it better. The song has mood/tone, imagery, and Idioms.
Mood/Tone impacts the meaning of the song because he used mood by saying, “I wanna shelter you /but with the beast inside /there’s nowhere we can hide…” This made me feel bittersweet because the first half of the lyrics makes me think he is trying to be caring and loving, hence the sweet. But the second half makes me think he/they feel unsafe, which is the bitter.
Imagery adds to the meaning of the song by using the words, “Look into my eyes /it’s where my demons hide…” as I read this, I envisioned his eye’s completely black, but in the center of his eyes was a demon surrounded by fire. This image had me thinking about evil, something in him he was/is afraid of. Something he is too scared to have a covenant with, because he wants to do things that are good for the world.
Idiom enhances the meaning of the song by using the phrase, “Don’t get to close /it’s dark inside…” This phrase makes me think of sadness and bad because the word dark can be related to an emotion. Just like blue: sad or red: angry, dark: depressed, sad, lonely, evil…
I think the overall meaning of this song is sometimes when you want something to be good, it can be bad. Even though you think you can’t do anything about it, and nothing seems like it will change; you can still be scared to try to change it. Even if you need help.
