Death
Darkness, an infinite void of naught
To escape, you would give all you have got
Wealth, power, love, and possession,
All irrelevant in the Final Intermission
You wait, forever it seems,
Wondering, Is this the Great Inbetween?
A lived well, could this be Hell?
You swallow your fears, but they do not quell
Think of your life, judge yourself
Recall the unopened Bible on your shelf
Oh, Lord, is there actually a god?
No one hears you as you sob
The voice, the one in the back of your head,
Reminds you:
You’re dead
Part I of "The Ballad of Life."
A sonnet about death.
