Are you living, or just alive?

Living is smiling when you hear the rain

Listening as it sings its song

To comfort you in your pain

It’s peeling potatoes to make a soup

And the smell of coffee on a cold winter’s day

It’s cleaning your room to jazz in the background

Or wishing so desperately that someone could stay

It’s watching flowers awaken from their slumber

Or seeing the ocean in a pair of blue eyes

It’s opening the window for the first time in spring

And leaning out to listen to the noisy seagulls’ cries

It’s the feeling of accomplishment after working hard

And dreaming of your future, exciting and new

But nevertheless, beyond all these little joys

Living is living because I get to live it with you
