Lake
Minds filled with memories
Memories make us human
Thoughts stick like anemones
One day, memories come to conclusion
I remember sounds of ruffling leaves
And sunlight shining through trees
Twinkling water, a cool breeze
This lake is what makes me, me
I smell the air
Air smells like bliss
I say a prayer
Sun gives Earth a kiss
The lake will last longer than me
And I will be it’s legacy

My name is Sadie and I made this sonnet for my creative writing class. I love to write poetry, even though I don't have the most experience with it. This is one of the three sonnets in a collection of poems I wrote about Lake McConaughy, a beautiful lake in Nebraska that I go to every year. It means a lot to me, which is why I wrote it.
