She walks by sundry houses, dragging feet,
Exhausted, trying to erase the stings
of disappointing those she thinks of sweet;
Unable to forget these thoughts, she clings.

She doubts she'll ever make her mother blessed,
and worthless seems to be her middle name.
She's like a gum wad stuck on desks, compressed
and hidden yet when noticed, no one claims.

There's nobody alongside, walking there,
A ditch, a pit, an emptiness within,
She's longing for a pleasant heart to share
in blissfulness and slip into her skin.

Yet words, they tumble from her lips, in plea,
"I'm lovely, happy with the way I am. "
