Summertime Sadness
How sweet the wind whipped, window down, swirled hair
Over the baking asphalt highway hills
Butterfly wings hit windshields, barely there
Shed layers ‘cause arms no longer get the chills
The humid air so thickly dense and warm
Sunshine beats across the blazing hot fields
Watch for nest with no longer dormant swarm
Waves lap against the boats, rinsing crab peels
Hours drag on outside on the fresh mowed lawn
Cabanas shield vacationers
Days laze by as tan legs stretch on and on
Fresh preserves and jam is what grandma stirs
We all wish that summer would never end
We all know that back-to-school’s around the bend
